Cherry Fund began in the late 90s, when a group of local residents united to plan a charity fundraiser, which since has gone on to raise nearly $1 million for GLBT advocates and the HIV/AIDS service community. Cherry quickly grew to become one of the largest circuit events in America, whose massive main event held on the National Mall became the subject of the congressional record (shirtless boys on federal property, oh my!)
Having undergone numerous incarnations, Cherry continues to be an annual rite of Spring to honor the memory of its predecessors, and as the standard bearer for Circuit Excellence in the nation’s capital. With a knack for booking the hottest DJs in the business (most notably Abel, Alyson Calagna, Oscar G, Tom Stephan, and the late Peter Rauhofer, among others) it also showcases the best clubs and nightlife in the District and of course, the National Cherry Blossom Festival.
This year’s DJs include NYC's Eddie Elias (Genesis at Cobalt on Friday), the LA legendary Paulo (Emergence at Town on Saturday) and the hottest new DJ hailing from Montréal, Alain Jackinsky (Ascendance Sunday morning afterhours at DC's newest underground club, Tropicalia). PLUS, don't miss the annual Saturday zany afternoon tea-dance, celebrating celebrity physician and photographer Dr. Moody Mustafa, with DJ Joe Gauthreaux.
Renewing the spirit of dance music and community, Cherry's all-volunteer organization will be pulling out all the stops, packing spectacular performances and special effects to ensure an exciting weekend for locals and out-of-town guests alike. If you haven't had your cherry popped lately, this would be the weekend, April 4-6.
